Katrin Smith
Abstract & Mixed Media Car Art

Welcome to the official online gallery of original abstract & mixed media car art  by KATRIN SMITH.

STRONG, FEARLESS, CONFIDENT.    These are words that describe the art of Katrin Smith.      Through the dynamic use of bold colour, innovative mixed media techniques and simplicity in design, Katrin  draws the viewer into her paintings and strikes an emotional connection.    She is strongly drawn to the abstract and the power it has to provoke thought and push the limits of our imagination.  The texture of the painted surface is of particular interest to Katrin.   Multiple layers of paint, medium and collage create a luscious textural landscape - a means by which undiscovered emotional memories come to life on the canvas and speak a language words can't express.    Her work seldom starts with the end in mind - each painting unfolds in its own unique way.

Working in the nonrepresentational realm of art allows each work to speak to the viewer at a very elemental level.    Katrin does not like to be didactic in describing her work, rather, she prefers to let the viewer make a connection and decide what he/she sees.    "What you see, is what you see."

More recently, Katrin has forayed into the semi-representational style to create a unique series of 2D & 3D art that combines her passion for art with her passion for fast cars.   While remaining true to her love of texture, she uses a variety of mixed media techniques, including small car parts collage, to create her FAST LANE series which pays homage to the automotive world.   Each painting is either a semi-representational portrayal of an exotic car or an abstract work that incorporates car parts.

Katrin  has exhibited in a variety of juried shows at the Cube Gallery, Tay River Gallery, Gloucester Gallery,  Cumberland Gallery,  Atrium Gallery, Britannia Gallery , the Frederic Remington Art Museum (Ogdensberg, New York), the Ottawa Art Expo, the Rideau Valley Fine Art Festival, the Montreal  International Art Festival and many other local and regional exhibits.

Her work is held in numerous private & corporate collections in both Canada and Europe.
