KATRIN SMITH
MODERN ART FOR CONTEMPORARY SPACES

I see a painting I like in one of your galleries on the website, how can I see the original?

You can visit me at one of my upcoming shows (see heading above) or alternatively you can make an appointment to meet me at my studio for a viewing.  There is also the option to meet at a mutually agreed upon venue to see the work.

What if I get the painting home and I don't like it or it doesn't fit with my decor?

I want you to be absolutely thrilled with your new original work of art.    You have 14 days to either exchange (+/- the price difference) or return the work of art in the same condition it was purchased for a full refund.

Why original, contemporary art?

The space that you live in and work in is important to you and to those that visit you.  You can improve the look and feel of your space with real, original contemporary artworks.   Posters and giclees offer less ambience and presence than original works of art.   Buying original artworks need not be expensive.  Many emerging professional artists have original works available for $30-1000.   Prints do not appreciate - real art does.

Why abstract art ?

If you are interested in adding a bold, artistic statement to your home, then  you need look no farther than an abstract painting.    An abstract  painting features no recognizable subject rather it is the art itself that influences what the viewer is feeling.   A defining characterisitic of abstract art is that it is open to interpretation.    A person viewing abstract art can come away with many things.   Abstract paintings capture emptions and themes in a way that realism cannot.

What should I consider when viewing abstract art ?

Ask yourself the following questions:

  • Am I trying to figure out what it looks like or represents rather than allowing something to emerge from what I see in front of me?
  • What are the elements, colours and textures of the painting?
  • How do these interact with each other?
  • What emotions does the painting evoke in me?
  • What is the title of the painting and how is this influencing what I see?
  • Have I allowed enough time to make a connection with the painting?

How durable is acrylic paint ?

Acrylic paint has been used since the 1950s and is very durable and stable.  It resists oxidation and chemical decomposition and will not yellow over time.
